Why we're different
Your website belongs to you!
Your website doesn’t belong to anyone else. We believe your website must reflect you, your product and services and your business goals and we do that in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Our goal is to make your web presence earn you money and we want to ensure that you have complete control of your message and your results.
Here is how we’re different.
1. We don’t own your domain
2. We don’t own your hosting
3. We don’t own your website
4. We design your website for your business
5. We don’t use proprietary web tools
6. We make your website search engine friendly
7. We don’t brand your website with our name
1. We don’t own your domain
If you don’t already have a domain, we’ll help you register a domain name. This is easy and only takes a few minutes. There are many instances where business domain names have been registered by the web design company and then the web design company owns your domain name. What happens if you or the web company decide you don’t want to work together anymore? Your site could disappear because you don’t own the domain name. We’ve also seen domains stop working because the web designers have forgotten to pay the registration fees. We want you to own your domain name.
2. We don’t own your hosting
Many web designers will put your site on their servers or onto their hosted servers. What this means is that you don’t control your hosting services. Web designers will tell you that this is easier for you but the real reason is that they want to charge you higher rates for web hosting. If you don’t get along with your web company, you could be stuck. Web hosting is simple and easy to arrange and we’ll make sure that you’re in control of your hosting service. This can save you a lot of money.
3. We don’t own your website
When your website is finished, we’ll give it to you. When we’re finished making your website we’ll give you a CD with your finished website and all the working files used to make the website. This functions not only as a backup, but it means that you can, if you want, make changes and modifications to your website yourself. Again, you’re in control of your web content.
Certain restrictions may apply, such as when we use royalty free images on your site. We may purchase the right to use the images once on your website but the copyright of these images remain with the copyright owner, not with us. These images can be used on your website but not in other media and you cannot sell, transfer or attempt to make money from these images. In fact, the best solution is that we won’t give you the raw images of anything that we didn’t create.
4. We design your website for your business
Many websites are designed and created by designers who think they make cool websites. They often use too much Flash ™, are difficult to navigate and use splash pages. Visitors are often turned off before they even see your web content.
We will work with you to design and create a website which reflects you, your business and your products and services.
5. We don’t use proprietary web tools.
Yes, there are times when your site will require proprietary web tools, especially if you want to enable e-commerce or accept online payments. The vast majority of websites, however, can be designed and created using basic web coding or open source web programs. There are many kinds of open source programs and they are widely used by many small and large organizations.
Open source means you are not stuck with a proprietary web program or content management system and therefore stuck with a single web design company. Using open source means you can have any skilled web designer manage your website, not just us.
6. We make your website search engine friendly
Does your website work for you? Can you find it if you search for it using search engines? Many web designers make nice looking sites but forget about making the site easy for the search engines to find, index and show to your potential customers.
Because sites can’t be found there are search engine optimization companies that will charge you a great deal of money to fix your site.
Search engine optimization doesn’t need to be expensive or indeed to cost anything at all. The most effective modifications are the simplest and least expensive changes to make to your site.
When we make a website we include the basic requirements for a search engine to find and index your website. No extra charge.
If you already have a website, we’ll help you understand how search engines work and we’ll implement the basics for much less than some companies would charge.
7. We don’t brand your website with our name
On the bottom of almost any website you’ll visit on the web is the name and link to the web designer. You should ask yourself, why that link is there? Does it bring you any business? Does it make your website better?
No, that link is only there to promote the ego of the web designer and hopefully bring the designer more business.
Do your business cards have the name of the designer and printer on them? How about your letterhead and brochures? So why does your website have the name of the designer on the bottom of the page?
Don’t get me wrong, we’d love to have a link from your site to our site and, if you’ll let us, we’ll do it on the about page or link page but not on every page.
